📝CALLING ALL WRITERS📝

Do you have an idea or a script that you want to turn into a film? This is your opportunity to have your script produced by UBC Film Society! Send us an email at productions@ubcfilmsociety.ca with your name and logline, so we may decide on a time to meet in person or online for your official pitch.

Your submission must include a written introduction, your script, a logline, and a pitch video.

What to include in your written introduction?
- 150-200 words
- Introduce yourself (name, background, etc)
- The inspiration behind your story
- Films or directors that might have influence your pitch

Script Guidelines:
- 5-10 pages long
- A maximum of 4 locations
- Your story does not need to be plot-driven or fictional, thus it can be documentary or abstract
- A maximum cast of 10 people

Pitch Video Guidelines:
- 5 minute long video
- Outline narrative, genre, characters, themes, and target audience
- What makes your script/film special?
- Why does your script need to be turned into a film?
- Note: focus on what makes your story unique from others!

FilmSoc premium membership is required for submission.

The deadline to submit is by January 10th.

In collaboration with From the River to the Sea collective and UBC Faculty for Palestine, we will be screening Wild Flowers: Women of South Lebanon (1958) this Tuesday, November 26 at 6pm.

Doors will open at 5:45pm.

In this award-winning documentary, directors Mai Masri and Jean Khalil Chamoun shed light on the social and political struggles of women in south Lebanon, including their crucial role in fighting Israeli occupation. Preserving their stories on camera, Wild Flowers: Women of South Lebanon is a poignant testimony of courage, resistance, and hope.

“Presented alongside the exhibition, An Opulence of Squander and currently on view at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery until December 8, 2024, this screening series brings together films that explore the devastation of environmental decay and its effect on bodies, families, communities and societies. Wanna book the norm?

If you are a party (UBC-affiliated or not) looking to book the Norm for a screening, please first contact us at bookings@ubcfilmsociety.ca to book our technician services (Standard fee: $250). If we are able to book you, we will then direct you to booking the theatre with the AMS. Additionally, a projectionist ($50/h) and a floor manager ($20/h), both with a minimum of 5 hours, have to be hired. There must be one certified projectionist and one experienced floor manager present for all screening. The floor manager is an usher/supervisor and sells concessions. If you expect a large crowd or need to check tickets, we recommend hiring a second-floor manager.

If you are simply looking to book the theatre for an event that does NOT require our technician services (including sound and screenings), then please contact AMS Bookings directly at info@ams.ubc.ca.

As a UBC-affiliated club, you can collaborate with us on an event/screening in the Norm! The first step is to contact us at film@ubcfilmsociety.ca. Note that this means we will be sharing decision-making responsibilities!
